Tahiti Finance

Banking

Normal banking hours are from 7:45am to 3:30pm Monday to Thursday and to 2:00pm on Friday. All banks are closed on public holidays as well as Saturdays and Sundays.

There are three main banks in Tahiti: Bank Socredo, the Bank of Tahiti and the Bank of Polynesia.

Currency

The Tahiti currency is the Cour de Franc Pacifique (CFP), which is also known as the Pacific French Franc. Denominations available are the 1,2,5,10,20,50 and 100 CFP coins, and 500,1,000,5,000 and 10,000 CFP notes.

Most credit cards and travellers cheques are readily accepted and there are several ATM machines (or DAB's in French) around the island. A bank is also open to meet all international flights at Faa'a airport in Tahiti.

Tax

All goods and services in Tahiti have a VAT (Value Added Tax) added to them. A 10% VAT rate applies to bars, excursions, car rentals, snacks and restaurants; a 5% VAT is added for room tax and a 16% VAT rate applies to purchases in shops, stores and boutiques.

Tipping

Tipping is not expected in Tahiti, however a tip is always welcome after exceptional service.
